12 things you need to thrive as a service-based business.

If only it was as simple as being an expert in your field.
If you own/work in a service-based business, you know doing the work—the reason you got into this in the first place—is just one slice in the pie chart of your time.

And we can all agree we can never have enough time (or pie).

Breaking it down at a high level, there’s at least 12 things you’ve got to do well to thrive.

• Market Positioning
• Lead Generation
• Sales
• Client Discovery Meetings
• Proposal Development
• Negotiation
• Project Delivery (the ‘work’ work)
• Quality Assurance
• Relationship Management
• Learning and Adaptation
• Team Development
• Client Re-engagement

The smaller the team, the more hats you’re wearing, and the less time you have to do the ‘work’ work.

While larger teams have more moving pieces, and more opportunities for things to get lost in translation or fall between the cracks.

The exact slices and time spent in each will vary from business to business. And there’ll be some slices that you’ll be more passionate about, and some that drain your energy – that’s totally normal.

So, in the interest of growing together, over the next couple of weeks we’ll share how we’ve done the things that we’re passionate about.
